After my last post, and some twitter discussion, Natalie and I decided that it was worth giving Diigo a go. It would allow us somewhere to form a medical education community, where we could have discussion, and talk to each other outside blogs. So here it is.
I'll be honest and say that as a social bookmarking tool I am finding it is taking me a little bit longer to find my way around. But it would be good if you check in and give us some feedback. We are living and learning!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI`ve had a look and I suppose it would save having bookmarking on delicious and a group with google groups. I`m all for centralising things. I`m going to keep an eye on this one and see how it grows and see if you find it anymore useful.
How does it compare to del.icio.us?
ReplyDeletePam - I'm all against centralising things. :-)
I would much prefer if everyone I knew used decentralised services because otherwise I need to log into Facebook, Myspace, Diigo, or whatever the hot social networking platform is at the time to connect with my peers.
@David, I`m sorry I probably used a poor term of english, its my husband thats the doctor, I`m just a midwife. I find currently at the moment I`m trying to keep an eye on the google group I set up for practicing reflection, a blog http://nzmidwiferypractisingreflection.blogspot.com and del.icio.us. I am hoping to move into tutoring and it would be more useful if I could catch up with students in one place. I`m interested in the fact that the students will be able to discuss their bookmarks whilst they are on Diigo.
ReplyDeleteKeep smiling! :)
Hi, I relate to your comments. I'm using iGoogle as my central starting place with customized links to my favourite apps. Facebook for informal networking (it's the pub) and Google groups as a place for "serious" connections, Blog(s) for downloading my brain on specific topics, Google Reader for RSS feeds from the library, websites and other blogs. I have used delicious but did not make a real habit of it, so I will try Diigo.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Anita.
Pam - What do you mean just a midwife :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is time-consuming keeping track of your network eh? What I really meant before is that I try to get all of my information managed through receiving feeds into my inbox (e.g. Google groups) and my RSS reader.
I was right into FB for 6 months or so, but now I can't be bothered logging in. I wish all of my FB friends just had a blog.
@David and Anita, I must admit I`m not a fan of facebook and I rarely look in. Thanks to Sarah my tutor on recent post grad course I love blogging.
ReplyDelete@David I`m still trying to get accustomed to the feeds thing and there are probably numerous places I`ve created one without knowing what I`m doing!
First time I have checked my blog and found 6 comments...what a flurry of activity so we must have hit a bit of a hot topic here!
ReplyDeleteI am finding it hard to move away from my delicious habit... despite not being able to find out who certain people in my network really are. So it feels a little bit of a chore to be logging into diigo and we haven't reached critical mass yet. There are no discussions yet!
Still watch this space!
Maybe this topic should be a discussion?
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam! I have posted a question to the forum querying the merits of the forum! It sounds a bit navel-gazing :)
ReplyDeleteThat`s fine I`m all for starting at the beginning!!!! LOL
