Just had a student call in for a chat about his project. I asked if he had seen my course blog. You could have bowled me over when he told me that not only had he found it but he had clicked on the RSS feed tab and now got my updates directly through to his Vista desktop and wished that much more of Blackboard operated like this.
So my course blog is really a blog and students are starting to develop their personal learning environments. Yay!
I had to laugh at this post because it's true - you get such a buzz when one student (out of many) says they're found something that you've recommended useful.
ReplyDeleteWell, I just hope that the one student will tell another and before you know it they are all at it!
ReplyDeleteI think that that's probably the best way to get students into web 2.0 technology-they have to see a use for it. My students are starting to get into Facebook for networking, especially when they are away on clinical placements.
ReplyDeleteEngaging with your students in the virual world is fantastic. The Forrester social ladder of participation is an excellent expression of steps along the way.
ReplyDelete@ Sarah. Look forward to the day my course blog is accessed as often by students as Facebook;-)
ReplyDelete@Starpath. I like the scale- and can see that I have went those steps myself over the years.
Don't hold you breath, Anne Marie, or else you'll need medical attention yourself :)
ReplyDelete@ Sarah. Well, I've seen them a link to a Facebook RSS application- RSS Connect so my notoriety may soon be forthcoming:)
